Newton's Deputy, which was the top man in the, in the state of Illinois at that time. That was the first time I met Fred Hampton, and he was the Chairman, the spokesman for the Party and Bobby Rush was the Minister of Defense. So they appointed me as, as the Security Captain. So positions, it was easy to get a position. They had this big office building on the, and up on the second floor they had about five or six offices and very little personnel to run things. It was located on Western and Madison, and walked in the office, about three or four Panthers in the office, and I think I was about the fifth member in the Chicago Party to join. If you get in, give me a call back." So, the next day, I got on the bus and went down to the office of the Black Panther Party. So why don't you see if you can go down to the office and join. Roy said basically, "Just go and see if you can join the Black Panther Party. Well, he didn't give me any specific instructions at that point. And a few months, three mo-three months maybe passed before he asked me to join the Black Panther Party. I tried to deny it, but he had the evidence and he said basically it was no problem, that we could work it out, that I wasn't in any serious problems that he couldn't deal with. I think I was about nineteen, eighteen, nineteen years old, and the FBI agent's name was Roy Mitchell, and, um, called me up on the phone and, and, and recanted the crime, pretty much. He said that, "I want you to go and see if you can join the Black Panther Party, and if you can, give me a call."Ĭan I just interrupt you here, and start that part about joining the Panther Party, but tell me again how old you were and that it, got heated, that it was an FBI agent. I know you did it, but it's no big thing." He said, "I'm sure we can work it out." And, um, I think a few, few months passed before I heard from him again, and one day I got a call and he told me that it was payback time. And he said something like, "Well, you know, ain't no-there's no need in you trying to bullshit me.

And at this, at the door, you had to register your phone number and address, and we wrote down our names and phone numbers then went and shot a game of pool, and then came out and had an accident. And we were driving round the city of Chicago for, of, forty-five minutes and decided to leave the city, and go visit a relative in another state, and we had an accident out of state, and, prior to the accident, we had walked into a pool hall, and we were shooting pool. I was with a guy one night, a friend of mine, one night and we were drinking beer and we decided to go joy riding, and we jumped in a car and stole it.
